Alexandra's Story
I was thirteen, a victim found in a hotel three states away.
After, I found myself back in a dysfunctional home, the familiar cycle of use and abuse repeating like a broken record.
In the spring of 2015, I met Kat—the day I now refer to as “My Rescue.” At just 16 years old, I had already been trafficked across several states: California, Vegas, Atlanta, and Miami.
My soul felt hollow, my psyche traumatized, and my spirit hardened beyond my years. Yet beneath the layers of pain, there lingered a lost little girl—a flicker of vulnerability.
Kat’s presence was a beacon of light. She saw something in me that I couldn’t see in myself. Perhaps it was the remnants of innocence or the spark of resilience. Placed in a detox center, —I ran away, as I always did. But Kat planted a seed within me, a seed of strength.
This experience felt different from when I was 12 years old. I wasn’t looked down upon or asked intrusive personal questions. Kat treated me as her equal, not as a victim. She saw me as a human being in a tough situation, but not an impossible one. Even when I was under the influence, yelling obscenities, she didn’t look at me with disgust. Instead, she showed care and love.
And so began my journey of healing. I earned my GED, obtained my driver’s license, and attempted to live what we call a “normal” life... In the labyrinth of pain, I found my purpose—a purpose that transcends my own suffering. Human trafficking, that insidious practice, had once ensnared me across states—California, Vegas, Atlanta, and Miami. But now, I stand as a warrior, wielding my voice against the darkness.
Please be aware that the survivors of human trafficking are not criminals.
Care, understanding, education, a safe space to talk are what survivors desperately need.
The importance of having someone who has experienced human trafficking and survived during these rescues is important.
We need a voice! Someone to hold agents, police officers and first responders accountable.
The importance of not focusing on the trafficker but placing the importance on the survivor and her feelings, her story, and her recovery!
